Dr. Jade Savage is a Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the Université de Bishop’s. She is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Manitoba and an emeritus curator at the Lyman Museum of McGill University. She completed her BSc in Biology and PhD in Entomology both at McGill University. She has experience in electronic surveillance of ticks, especially Ixodes scapularis.
Dr. Savage is the creator and manager of the citizen science electronic platform eTick.ca, a public platform for image-based identification and population monitoring of ticks in Canada. The citizen science project invites the public to participate in the monitoring of ticks in Canada by submitting tick photos on e.Tick.ca for identification by a professional. It is currently available in the province of Québec with planned expansions in Ontario and New Brunswick.
Dr. Savage is a Co-Applicant on the grant. She will share the tick surveillance data collected through eTick.ca and will use the network to constantly improve and update the public health messages disseminated through eTick.ca as well as develop province-specific requirements for the expansion of the platform beyond Québec.
